dresses...ugh

Wanna feel fat? Easy, just go try on wedding dresses. Either all of the regular clothes manufacturers have quietly increased their sizes, or the wedding dress manufacturers get some sort of sick delight out of making dresses 2-3 sizes too small. I mean really! Really! And why do they have to cost so much? Even the simple ones! I don't want to be princess Di, I just want a simple, pretty dress!

The only good news about wedding dress shopping was that my future mother-in-law enjoyed herself and has volunteered to do it again. Thank god! I'm glad I asked her too, because she doesn't have any daughters of her own, and I think she's more excited about this wedding than I am right now.

cake and bridesmaids

So we picked out the cake. I say WE, but mostly ME. =) It's going to be four-tier, simple but pretty design, with piping on the tops and bottoms, and small white beads strung on the bottoms. Then it'll have small blue flowers on the sides, and bigger flowers on the tops. She had two big books of pictures, some of them were just over the top, and not at all in line with my vision of a simple, but nice, wedding. And I got my lemon poppyseed! The fiance's happy too because the second layer is chocolate with raspberry filling. Then the top two are marble, so there should be something for everyone. The best part is, the total bill for the cake, including delivery is $151.50. YAY!

Found out last night that fiance asked a 2nd friend to be groomsman. So now I have to determine who will be my 2nd bridesmaid. It was easy when I thought we were only having one couple.

just one good snow day, and making cookies

So last Thursday was a snow day for every school in about a 100 mile radius. Ahh, to be a kid again, eagerly listening to the radio in the wee hours, hoping, just hoping that your school's name would be on the list. Snow days were good days for me when I was young. It usually meant hours playing outside with my dog and my sled, only coming in when my face was nearing frostbite conditions. Unfortunately, last week's snow day was simply too cold to enjoy (a -20 windchill isn't much fun) and the kids and I stayed inside.

Friday we were all home also - a scheduled teacher's convention day. My son helped me make chocolate chip cookies. The good kind my mom and I used to bake together. It felt good to be carrying on that tradition.

Friday night was a real treat too because my fiance took us all to Red Lobster. My son shares my love for crab legs so we both had those. My daughter's favorite meal at Red Lobster? Macaroni and cheese! Go figure.

Cake!

I've got cake! At least, I've got the cake lady for the wedding. I know a half dozen or so people who've used her. She's some little old lady out in Norske country. The only bad thing about her is the worry that she may kick off before the wedding day (according to people she's done cakes for.) rofl...I can't wait to meet her! And she's cheap too. She quoted a friend $110 for cake for 200 people. You can't even get a sheet cake for that price!

puzzles and wedding plans

The puzzle is done! Or as done as it's going to get. The missing piece count is at three. But with a little creativity, we may still be able to glue and hang it.

Now it's off to wedding plans. Ugh. Even trying to have a simple wedding, there are so many things to do, and things to think of, and feelings to consider. If I was marrying a rich guy I'd definitely hire a wedding planner! I haven't started dress shopping, but I've at least thought about what I want. Of course, I always have an opinion!

Puzzle Woes...

So I haven't completely finished the puzzle, but I am absolutely certain that at least two, if not more, pieces are missing. What to do? Call the manufacturer and complain? But if I do, will they send me a new one?? HELLO! This one took me over three weeks. Yeah, I really want to do it again. About as much as I want to poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick! So my other alternative is to try to make a 'new' piece and hope it doesn't look totally stupid. Whose idea was it anyway to buy a puzzle to put together for glueing and hanging on my son's wall? *sheepish grin*

kids say the funniest things

Two days ago I picked my daughter up from school for an appt. She happened to notice the gift bag with baby items for a friend that was in the front seat. A conversation about babies and marriage ensued. She asked if you could 'pick' how many kids you had. To some extent at least, this is true, so I said yes. She then said, and I quote, "Mom, when you get married, can you ask for two?" To her, apparently it seemed as easy as ordering at the McDonald's drive-thru. If only!

So then I did my best to explain about babies growing in mommies' tummies, and how sometimes mommies tummies can't grow babies - even though they really want to, and how some kids are adopted if something happens to their mom and dad. I think she finally got it - or at least said she got it so I'd shut up!
